Fatal Accident Reported on Pasadena Avenue
Officers described woman down in the street near Monterey Road.
UPDATE, 12:39 p.m.: A 72-year-old man from Los Angeles was the victim of a fatality accident on Pasadena Avenue at Arroyo Drive, Sunday morning.
The victim was a pedestrian walking northbound in the crosswalk on Pasadena Avenue when a van driven by a 77-year-old man was traveling eastbound and failed to stop and struck the victim, said Joseph Payne, South Pasadena chief of police.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, also a Los Angeles resident, may face vehicular manslaughter charges. There were no signs of intoxication and a blood toxicology report is pending, police said.
PREVIOUSLY: Patch received a report of a fatal auto/pedestrian traffic accident at Pasadena Avenue and Arroyo Drive Sunday morning.
Around 7:50 a.m., officers with reported a woman down in the street. By 7:54 a.m., traffic was being diverted from eastbound Pasadena to northbound Arroyo Drive, according to scanner reports.
At 9:15 p.m., officers were still on scene with a dark, older minivan and what the reader described as a body covered in a sheet.
