Banning Man Suspected of Stealing, Crashing Car After Burglarizing Home

Police say the 18-year-old suspect was briefly hospitalized before being taken to jail.

A Banning man was behind bars Monday, suspected of burglarizing a local home, stealing a car and then crashing that car.

18-year-old Anzell Coleman was arrested following his alleged involvement in the crimes on Friday, and remained jailed in Banning come Monday, according to jail records.

Coleman was arrested after he was found "lying injured in a field" near the crash site of the stolen Ford Mustang in the area of Old Idyllwild Road and San Gorgonio Avenue, according to a press release from Banning police.

"Further investigation revealed that Coleman, who resides in Banning, had just burglarized a residence located nearby," the release stated.  "He had placed numerous stolen items into the Mustang which he had also stolen from the same residence."

Police say Coleman had tried to flee the scene of the burglary, and lost control of the car.  At that point, he drove through a fence, rolling the Mustang.

After Coleman was treated at the hospital for his injuries, he was taken to jail, police said.

"All stolen items were recovered and returned to the victim," police added.
