Crime Blotter: Counterfeit Bills Passed at Starbucks

The following incidents were reported to the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station. Arrests do not indicate convictions.

The store manager of the on 475 Foothill Boulevard in La Cañada contacted the police on June 18 regarding counterfeit currency. On June 17, an unidentified person had bought items from the shop with two counterfeit twenty bills. The manager discovered the bills while counting the previous day’s sales. Due to the high number of customers during the 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. shift, none of the cashiers or the manager of Starbucks knew who could have passed the counterfeit money. The counterfeit money was made up of two color printouts of a twenty-dollar bill, but did not include watermarks or security threads. The police officer contacted a U.S. Secret Service Agent regarding the incident.

Laptop Taken From Car

On June 13, a 52-year-old female told the police about a burglary at the 5400 block of Ocean View Boulevard in La Cañada Flintridge. She had parked and locked her car on the street. When she returned, she found that her rear passenger window had been smashed and a silver 17” Fujitsu laptop computer had been taken. The laptop was valued at $3,000 and damages to her car totaled $150. 

Car Window Smashed

A car window was smashed at the 4300 block of Beulah Drive in La Cañada on June 16. A 36-year-old female stated that she had parked her car in front of the house the previous day. At 3 a.m., an unknown person smashed her driver’s side front window. She was too tired to check the car, so she turned the alarm when off. Later that morning, when checking the car, nothing was seen missing. The damage to the car was $600.

Prescription Sunglasses Stolen

On June 16, a female reported a petty theft at the 1000 block of Inverness Drive in La Cañada. Someone entered her unlocked vehicle and stole her prescription sunglasses. The person ransacked the interior of the car, but nothing else was taken. The car was parked in front of the driveway in front of her home. The prescription sunglasses were valued at $250.

counterfeit money! man! wouldn't that be THE answer. imagine - you could float just a few bills here and there, small bills, so it saves you a few bucks and costs corporations money. i don't know - i'm not sure costing corporations money is a crime any more.

If people don't trust the currency, they will insist on something else, like silver or gold. That would be very bad for you and me.
