Crime Map: 11 Residential Burglaries in December

Eleven residential burglaries were reported in December, according to crime map released Friday.

While this number is down from 15 in November, it is still above average. And Police Chief Joe Payne spoke about this uptick in property crimes, which has continued through January, at Wednesday's City Council meeting.

"Particularly ... Friday through Monday—over the long weekend—we arrested over a dozen individuals for felony offenses ... in South Pasadena, that's a lot," he explained to City Council.

Seven of those individuals were arrested for residential burglary, he said, thanks to a timely notification from the public. 

"In two of those cases, we were fortunate enough to make those arrests because of  ... witnesses who took it upon themselves to tell us about the suspicious activity," he said.

Payne urged residents to call the immediately if they ever notice an instance out of the ordinary: "We need the public's help and assistance ... anytime they even feel the least bit uncomfortable."

The crime report also shows auto burglaries almost doubling with seven reported last month—up from from four in November.

  • Auto Burglaries: 7
  • Commericial Burglaries: 4
  • Residential Burglaries: 11
  • Auto Thefts: 8
  • Robberies: 3
