Deputy Hospitalized After Two-Car Collision
Authorities were in pursuit of a drunk driving suspect when responding deputy crashed.
A Sheriff's Deputy from the Altadena Station was moderately injured after colliding with a vehicle while responding to a pursuit early Saturday.
The suspect was arrested and booked on suspicion of drunk driving and being a felon in possession of a firearm. An AK-47 assault rifle was found inside the suspect vehicle. The name of the suspect has not been released as booking information has not been completed.
The deputy was taken to an area hospital for a fractured foot and an injured hand, while the civilian received a laceration to their chin, said Sergeant Debra Herman.
The chase began around 12:30 a.m. at West Howard Street and Glen Avenue after deputies attempted to pull the suspect over for allegedly drunk driving. The suspect vehicle continued into Pasadena with deputies in pursuit.
The deputy was attempting to intercept fellow deputies when he struck a civilian vehicle at the intersection of Orange Grove Blvd. and Raymond Avenue, according to the San Gabriel Valley Tribune.
The pursuit ended with the drunk driving suspect surrendering at East Orange Grove Blvd. and North Los Robles Avenue, authorities said.
