FBI Raids South Pasadena Convalescent Hospital

We're getting reports of a federal raid on the home and are checking to see if this is part of a larger enforcement effort.

Update: Around 12:30 p.m. Thursday, representatives from the IRS U.S. Department of Treasury were seen outside the hospital and told Patch they were there on "official business."

Employees at the hospital declined to comment.

Original story: Patch is receiving reports that the FBI and federal agents executed search warrants at the on Mission Street Thursday morning.

A spokeswoman for the California Department of Justice told Patch that raids were taking place in “several other places” in Southern California Thursday.

We’ll update our story when we have more information.

Here's the Pasadena Sun story on the raids.

Federal agents issued a search warrant at the South Pasadena Convalescent Hospital, in the 900 block of Mission Street, Thursday morning.

The FBI declined to comment on the nature of the investigation, because the warrant was sealed by a judge.

Here's the Pasadena Star-News story on the raids.

Probably "raiding" them too! They hit Pasadena City College as well today.

I've always suspected the current owners of the hospital to be up to something. Many of the folks in their care are so obviously convalescing there because they are just out of jail or have no place else to go. SPPD are frequent visitors. Its too bad really, I'd love for South Pasadena to be the place to send my folks when they/we can no longer keep care. But the thuggy-ness of the place suggests we should look elsewhere.

If anyone can recommend an alternative local/semi-local facility that would accept a patient w/ medi-cal/medi-care (only), who needs medication dosage supervision (i.e. will abuse medications otherwise), please let me know. I would greatly appreciate it. Although I see quite a few options, I don't know which facilities would actually provide the proper care/supervision. I have a relative who was placed here by their rehab doctor, and I cannot stand seeing them here any longer. This place should be condemned.
