A pair of fire trucks collided at a Monterey Park intersection today, sending one of the trucks careening into a restaurant, injuring at least 14 people.

A Monterey Park Fire Department truck wound up largely inside the Lu Dumpling House at the corner of Emerson and Garfield avenues. The truck had apparently collided with an Alhambra Fire Department ladder truck.

Monterey Park Fire Chief Jim Birrell said the crews in both trucks were heading to the scene of a house fire in southern Monterey Park when the crash occurred.

According to Birrell, nobody died in the crash, but 14 people were treated. One person was critically injured, three or four suffered minor to moderate injuries and there were nearly a dozen "walking wounded."

Some of the injured were firefighters, but it was unclear how many.

California Highway Patrol Officer Martin Vasquez said the investigation into the crash was in the early stages, so it was unclear what caused the vehicles to collide.

Area??? What is your definition of LOCAL area? Although this is a hot news item, there is nothing local about it!
