Freeway Accident Leaves Driver in Critical Condition

An early morning auto accident caused a massive traffic jam and sent its driver to the hospital.

South Pasadena police and fire units assisted in an accident around 7:00 a.m. Thursday in which a vehicle flipped and sent the driver—a man in his early 40s—to Huntington Hospital with critical injuries.

The single car mishap occured on the southbound lanes of the 110 Freeway at the South pasadena-L.A. border between Orange Grove and the York off-ramp. The driver had to be extricated from his car and was taken by paramedics to Huntington where he was listed in "extremely critical condition."

Freeway commuters were gridlocked for miles with on-ramps (most notably Orange Grove) faring no better. Officers from several agencies responded to the accident along with units from South Pasadena.
