Here's a List of DUI Checkpoints in L.A. County

South Pasadena PD will conduct its DUI checkpoint Friday, at an undisclosed location within city limits, between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m.

Law enforcement agencies from across Los Angeles County will coordinate DUI checkpoints and patrols for a two-week holiday DUI crackdown.

According to the Avoid the 100, officers and deputies will be aggressively looking for impaired drivers and will arrest individuals caught driving under the influence through Jan. 1.

Enforcement efforts will include: 72 DUI/driver’s license checkpoints, 153 local DUI saturation patrols and 25 DUI warrant/probation sweeps. The CHP will deploy all available officers during two Maximum Enforcement Periods – Christmas and New Years Weekends. The special enforcement crackdown will run from Dec. 14, 2012, through Jan. 1, 2013.

In 2010, more than 10,000 people were killed nationwide in motor vehicle alcohol or drug-related crashes and in California 791 people died on state’s streets and highways. In Los Angeles County, there were 157 individuals killed.

According to the California Office of Traffic Safety, the holiday season can be a dangerous time on the road. During December 2010, 30 percent of all fatalities in motor vehicle traffic crashes involved alcohol-impaired drivers. Statistics showed that among these crashes, 71 percent occurred when drivers had nearly twice the legal limit blood alcohol concentration of .15 percent or higher.

DUI arrestees also face hefty fines and jail time. They may also lose their drivers license, gain higher insurance rates, or even lose their jobs, according to the Avoid the 100.

Funding for the Avoid the 100 DUI campaigns is provided through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.

I can't believe you think it's a service to the community to warn the drunk drivers where the checkpoints are. The purpose of the checkpoints is to protect me and my loved ones from having our lives destroyed by a drunk driver. This article is quite misguided in my opinion. What were you thinking?
Home Ranger December 17, 2012 at 05:51 PM
It is a service to those of us that wish to work or go about our daily lives without having to sit through Gestapo checkpoints. - -Drunks, by there very nature, do not pay attention to this kind of report. -these locations are non-specific. -the publicity of these campaigns keeps casual drunks off the roads -the main purpose if these Gestapo checkpoints is to corral illegal immigrants and warrant violators. Drunks are drunks. They will drink and drive no matter if you stuck a checkpoint in their garage.

Actually these checkpoints are a waste of money when it comes to deterring 'drunk' driving, They mostly catch license violations, which are bad too, but it won't deter thousand of customers from getting in their cars after drinking alcohol. It's just a propaganda tool to make us think the government is earning it's keep.

Thank you @Home Ranger, that is in fact the point. The Sheriff's department releases this very generalized info, to remind folks that they're out there, and they're cracking down. I can't imagine it's a map for boozers.

@Chris Evans Comment - LoL. @Donna Evans Comment - So True. @Home Ranger's Comment - You Hit the Nail on the Head. Like Home Ranger wrote "keeps casual drunks off the road." & "Drunks are drunks". In my opinion - these Checkpoints instill fear & make the presence of law enforcement known in Our Communites. If You have done Nothing Wrong - You Have Nothing to Fear. And if You Have - then get ready to PAY! These Checkpoints are Ca$h Cow$ for the City & the $tate. It's the end of the Year. Got to Keep Our Cities & State SAFE & of Course make what Makes WALL $treet. Gots to make that CA$H. Happy Holidays to Everybody! Be safe & friendly in those crazy Mall Parking Lots! To Everybody & Especially to those Families in CT- Make God Bless Us!
