UPDATED: Juvenile Leads Police on High-Speed Pursuit

Officers chase the four teens through South Pasadena, East Los Angeles and El Monte.

UPDATED, 11:05 a.m.: California Highway Patrol officers have released the ages of those arrested after leading police on a high-speed pursuit. Three 15-year-olds and one 18-year-old were arrested, said Monica Posada with the CHP.

The driver, a 15-year-old, was booked on suspicion of unlawfully taking, or driving of a vehicle, assault with a deadly weapon and recklessly evading a police officer.

Authorities with the CHP said the other three didn't appear to have been charged with any crime.

PREVIOUSLY: Four teens were arrested last night after leading police on a high-speed pursuit that wound its way through portions of the San Gabriel Valley and terminated in El Monte.

The chase began around 2 a.m. when a South Pasadena officer attempted to pull over the 1997 Honda occupied by the teens after they reportedly ran a red light near Fremont Avenue and Monterey Road, said Sergeant Tony Abdalla of the

Police initially observed only two teens in the car during the chase.

The teens fled south on Fremont and entered the Interstate 10 Freeway west into Los Angeles, where the teens exited at Soto Street. The pursuit continued back east on the 10 freeway and reportedly reached speeds in excess of 110 miles per hour, Abdalla said. The teens also allegedly threw gang signs at the officers.

Alhambra Police and the CHP were reportedly the joining agencies in the chase.

The chase then continued on surface streets through Rosemead and El Monte. The teens reportedly drove on the wrong side of the road during portions of the pursuit and ran numerous stop signs and red lights, according to scanner reports. The pursuit eventually ended at a cul-de-sac on Ellen Street in El Monte.

The teens were arrested by the California Highway Patrol, Abdalla said. The ages and preliminary charges of the teens were not immediately known.
