Suspected Laundry Room Burglar Charged

In addition to the theft of coins, the laundry room break-ins caused thousands of dollars of damage to the washers and dryers, according to police.

Andrew Carrington, a transient from Los Angeles, was charged Friday in a string of laundry room burglaries that took place at South Pas apartment buildings throughout November and December. 

Around 7 a.m. Friday, a resident in the 300 block of Pasadena Avenue called the to report a burglary that had just occurred at her apartment building’s laundry room.

"This burglary is identical to the previous burglaries reported. Officers immediately converged on the area and located the suspect reported by the resident," police wrote in a press release Friday.

"The suspect, Andrew Carrington, a transient from Los Angeles, was found to be in possession of multiple burglary tools consistent with those to commit this burglary, as well as the previous ones," it said. 

A latent fingerprint from one of the burglaries that occurred in the 600 block of Prospect Avenue Nov. 23 was processed and found to match Carrington's fingerprint, according to reports.

Coincidently, the Northeast Division of the Los Angeles Police Department was searching for Carrington in connection with burglaries in its area and had a warrant issued for his arrest, police said. 

Carrington has prior arrests for burglary, grand theft, vandalism, possession of burglary tools and petty theft; he was sentenced to three years probation with no jail time on Dec. 5 for a similar burglary arrest by LAPD.

Carrington continued to commit similar crimes while out of jail awaiting sentencing, according to reports. 

In addition to the theft of coins, the laundry room break-ins caused thousands of dollars of damage to the washers and dryers, according to police. The suspects in the burglaries have been described as black males in dark clothing between the ages of 16 years to early 20s, on bicycles. 

Currently, the South Pasadena Police Department’s Detective Bureau is following two additional leads that may implicate Carrington in two additional burglaries within the City.
