Herdman, 36, went missing after dark on Friday June 13, while hiking with a friend in a remote area of Los Padres Forest. He apparently was chasing after his dog, which fell. He was found two weeks later after an intensive ground and air search that included the use of remote-controlled drones.

A coroner found that Herdman, who left behind a wife and daughter, died after a fall from a cliff.

Firefighters from San Marino, San Gabriel and South Pasadena raised $17,000 for Herdman's family during a two-hour fundraiser Monday night.

A private reception for family members will follow today's memorial service.
