Police Blotter: Police Arrest Two Parolees at South Pasadena Convalescent Hospital

South Pasadena Police conducted a parolee sweep of the Convalescent Hospital on Sunday, making two arrests. Also, one car was stolen in South Pasadena during the week of Wednesday, February 16 to Tuesday, February 22.

The conducted a parolee sweep of the last weekend, and made two arrests, both for drug-related charges. According to Police Chief Joe Payne, about a dozen parolees reside within South Pasadena, and police officers conduct random parole compliance checks. 

"We routinely check active parolees in town as often as we have the resources to do it," Payne said. "Personally, I have concerns about the Convalescent Hospital because there are elderly, vulnerable people living there," he added. 

Police arrested one parolee residing at the Convalescent Hospital for theft of drugs from other patients, and arrested another parolee at the location for possession of drug paraphernalia, Payne said.

A parolee is someone who has been released from prison before the completion of their sentence, and may be returned to prison if they violate conditions of their parole. "We are regularly paying close attention to parolees in the city," Payne said.

At 11:34 a.m. on Wednesday, February 16, at the  on the 900 block of Fair Oaks Avenue, South Pasadena Police reported that an unidentified suspect cashed a forged check containing a victim’s account information.

At 12:50 p.m. on Wednesday, February 16, at the at the 1300 block of Fair Oaks Avenue, South Pasadena Police reported that a suspect attempted to cash a stolen check. Police arrested the suspect, a 19-year-old male from South Pasadena.

At 1:42 p.m. on Thursday, February 17, at the 1800 block of Bushnell Avenue, South Pasadena Police reported that a suspect was soliciting door to door without a city permit. South Pasadena Police arrested the suspect.

At 2:38 p.m. on Thursday, February 17, at the 2000 block of Huntington Drive, South Pasadena Police reported that a suspect was soliciting door to door without a city permit. South Pasadena Police arrested the suspect.

At 11:39 p.m. on Thursday, February 17, at the intersection of Huntington Drive and Court Avenue, South Pasadena Police reported that a suspect collided into the center median and drove away. According to police reports, San Marino Police stopped the vehicle and found the suspect to be driving under the influence of alcohol. The suspect was arrested.

At 11:20 a.m. on Friday, February 18, at the on the 1300 block of Fair Oaks Avenue, South Pasadena Police reported that a suspect attempted to cash a forged check while another suspect waited outside in a vehicle. According to police reports, the suspect left the bank after an unsuccessful attempt. South Pasadena Police arrested the two suspects.

At 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 19, at the 1000 block of Kendall Avenue, South Pasadena Police reported that a suspect entered a carport and removed a bicycle. According to police reports, the bike owner saw the suspect ride away with the bicycle. The suspect is described as a male, wearing a black jacket, back hat and a black/grey backpack.

At 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 19, at the 1000 block of Brent Avenue, South Pasadena Police reported that an unidentified suspect accessed a victim’s credit card account and made an unauthorized purchase.

Between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday, February 19, at the 700 block of Fairview Avenue, South Pasadena Police reported that a victim loaned a vehicle, an ’00 Chrysler Voyager to a worker. According to police reports, the worker did not return the vehicle. South Pasadena Police reported the vehicle as stolen. 

Between 10:30 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. on Sunday, February 20, at the 900 block of Lohman Lane, South Pasadena Police reported that an unidentified suspect smashed the window of an ’06 BMW.

At 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 20, at the South Pasadena Convalescent Hospital, police officers found a suspect in possession of drug paraphernalia during a parole compliance check. South Pasadena Police arrested the suspect.

At 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 20, at the South Pasadena Convalescent Hospital, police officers found drug paraphernalia and recovered stolen property from a suspect during a parole compliance check. South Pasadena Police arrested the suspect.

At 1:40 p.m. on Monday, February 21, at the on the 1200 block of Fair Oaks Avenue, South Pasadena Police reported that a store employee saw a suspect exit the store and drive away without paying for liquor. The suspect is described as an female wearing dark clothing and driving a grey Chevy Malibu.

At 5:14 p.m. on Monday, February 21, at the intersection of Mission Street and Brent Avenue, South Pasadena Police reported that a victim and witness were walking when they were approached by a suspect who pushed and slapped the victim and ran away. South Pasadena Police located and arrested the suspect, an 18-year-old South Pasadena male.

Between 6 p.m. on Monday, February 21 and 4 p.m. on Tuesday, February 22, at the 1700 block of Fair Oaks Avenue, South Pasadena Police reported that an unidentified suspect entered an apartment carport, cut a cable lock and stole a bicycle.

Between 10 p.m. on Monday, February 21 and 5:50 p.m. on Tuesday, February 22, at the 1700 block of Fair Oaks Avenue, South Pasadena Police reported that an unidentified suspect entered an apartment carport, cut a cable lock and stole a bicycle.

At 5:35 p.m. on Tuesday, February 22, at the on the 1100 block of Fair Oaks Avenue, South Pasadena Police reported that a suspect exited the store without paying for razor blades. The suspect is described as a white male between 25-30 years old, wearing a dark colored jacket, black/red cap, black shirt with a large bag over his shoulder.

At 6:56 p.m. on Tuesday, February 22, at the intersections of Collis Avenue and Hill Drive, South Pasadena Police reported that a suspect was stopped for a traffic violation and was found to have an outstanding warrant and was in possession of methamphetamine and drug related paraphernalia. According to police reports, another suspect, the passenger in the vehicle, was also found to have an outstanding warrant. South Pasadena Police arrested the two suspects.

Between 12 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 22, at the 1100 block of Windsor Place, South Pasadena Police reported that an unidentified suspect entered a rear yard and took a bicycle.

In other news:

South Pasadena Police Detectives reported that in 2010, for the 10th year in a row, Hondas and Toyotas were the most popular cars stolen in the city. Hondas accounted for approximately 52% of all stolen vehicles in 2010, while Toyotas accounted for only 16%. Acuras were the third most popular make of stolen vehicle, accounting for 9%, followed by GMC with 3%.
