Police Blotter: Speed Contest, Stolen Vehicle, Burglary and Soliciting Without a Permit

South Pasadena Police announced two new high-tech communication programs. Also, a list of notable crimes of the week.

At 2:29 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 13, at the 1700 block of Ellincourt Drive, South Pasadena Police located a '94 Honda Civic that was reported stolen the previous day.

At 1:34 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 13, at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Magnolia Street, South Pasadena Police arrested two suspects soliciting door-to-door without a city permit.

Between 2 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 14, at the 1200 block of Marengo Avenue, South Pasadena Police reported an unidentified suspect removed a bicycle from a victim's porch.

Between 8:40 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 15, at the 100 block of Marmion Way, South Pasadena Police reported that an acquaintance of a resident left with the resident's laptop. The resident had allowed the suspect to spend the night at the residence.

At 10:21 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 15, at the intersection of Huntington Drive and Maple Street, South Pasadena Police arrested a suspect involved in a speed racing contest with another vehicle.

Between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 15 through Saturday, Oct. 16, at the 700 block of Brent Avenue, South Pasadena Police reported a '90 Acura Integra was stolen by an unidentified suspect.

At 1:58 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 16, at the 200 block of Monterey Road, South Pasadena Police reported a suspect was stopped for a routine traffic violation and found to be under the influence of alcohol. South Pasadena Police arrested the suspect.

Between 10:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 17 though Monday, Oct. 18, at the 1200 block of Meridian Avenue, South Pasadena Police reported an unidentified suspect smashed a rear door window to enter a house and removed jewelry.

At 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 17, at the 1200 block of Fair Oaks Avenue, South Pasadena Police recovered at '97 Honda Accord that was reported stolen on Monday, Oct. 11. According to police reports, the car was found in a parking lot with a missing stereo.

At 4:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 18, at Arroyo Park, South Pasadena Police reported that a suspect was seen driving into a closed park. According to police reports, .

At 10:20 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 18, at the Ralph's Market on the 1700 block of Garfield Avenue, South Pasadena Police reported that a Ralph's employees observed two suspects enter the market and place various items in their pockets. According to police reports, the two suspects paid for some items, but not the items in their pockets. South Pasadena Police arrested the two suspects after they exited the market without paying for items.

Between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 19, at the intersection of Mission Street and Meridian Avenue, South Pasadena Police reported that an unidentified suspect removed a bicycle locked to a bicycle rack.

Between 3:30 p.m. and 3:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 19, at the 2100 block of Hanscom Drive, South Pasadena Police reported that an unidentified suspect entered a victim's unlocked vehicle and removed a lunchbox.

Between 6:30 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 19, at the 1900 block of Hill Drive, South Pasadena Police reported that an unidentified suspect entered a victim's unlocked vehicle and removed an iPod, phone charger and sunglasses.

Police Department to Begin Sending Emergency Alerts, Information via Text Messages and E-mail:

The South Pasadena Police Department announced plans to utilize the Nixle Community Information Service to announce valuable information and alerts directly to residents. Starting Monday, Nov. 1, the police department can send out messages instantly to subscribed residents through cell phone text messages and email. There is no cost for residents to register for this service. Messages will also be available on www.nixle.com. Police Department Joins Missing Persons Alert Program:

The South Pasadena Police Department formalized an agreement with the "A Child is Missing," alert program, a new high-tech system used to search for missing children, senior citizens, students and mentally and physically challenged people.

Through this free service, the South Pasadena Police Department can call a toll-free number at the Fort Lauderdale, Florida, headquarters for the "A Child is Missing Program," to report a missing person. The program's Information and Mapping technicians, who accept calls 24/7, will launch a sophisticated mapping system and place thousands of calls and alert messages with the missing person's description, last known whereabouts and other pertinent information.
