Police Nab Juvenile Following Attempted Robbery and Burglary

The 17-year-old allegedly broke into homes in South Pasadena and San Marino.

Stating that he was armed with a handgun, a Riverside juvenile allegedly broke into homes in San Marino and South Pasadena before authorities arrested him this weekend.

The first incident happened in San Marino, said South Pasadena Police Sgt. Brian Solinsky. The 17-year-old allegedly used a brick to smash the window of a home in the 2000 block of Winthrop Road on Sunday, shortly after 10 a.m. Unbeknownst to the teen, the owner was home and caught him removing valuables, Solinksy stated in a press release.

Startled, the teen fled before police arrived and ran to a nearby residence in the 1300 block of Garfield Avenue in South Pasadena.

There, the teen confronted a caretaker on the property and attempted to rob him of a cellular telephone, stating he had a gun, Solinsky said. Unsuccessful, the suspect again fled, this time to the 2000 block of Edgewood Drive, where a bystander called police, suspecting something was amiss.

South Pasadena officers were already in the area after learning about the burglary in San Marino, said Solinsky, so they were able to quickly locate the suspect and take him into custody. Authorities did not find a gun.

Police arrested the teen on suspicion of attempted robbery and burglary.

Just another instance of bad parenting

@McCloskey That's an entirely glib assessment, this kid might not even have parents. Do yourself a favor and stick a foot in your mouth.

Yes, obviously this kid is a victim, probably of the same times of people he was trying to rob. Rolling eyes.

You can definitely follow specific news! If you only wanted to follow police and fire, for example,Read More click on the News tab on the home page. Then, down the left side of the page are multiple news categories. Click the one you want and then it'll ask you if you want to receive email updates about this topic. Once you do, it'll show you as "subscribed.'' If you follow "Top News'' you receive updates on all stories.

Personally I do not want to get updates on all stories under a given category. It is too bad that weRead More can no longer follow specific stories as we used to.... As it is I get too many e-mails.... I hope patch will consider to allow following of specific stories instead of all stories under a given category.
