Police: Neighbor Thwarts Home Burglary

Two men breaking in to an Orange Grove Avenue apartment were startled by a neighbor who'd been watching them, police said.

Charges are expected to be filed Tuesday against a man police say tried to pry open an apartment door, but stopped and ran once he saw a neighbor watching him, authorities said.

South Pasadena Police Det. Bill Early said Arturo Chavez, 40, of Downey, was arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary and conspiracy.

A witness told police Chavez and another man tried to break into an apartment's laundry room in the 600 block of Orange Grove Avenue just before 5 p.m. on Friday. The men spotted someone looking at them, Early said, and "took off.''
