Police Searching For Man Who Tried to Lure Teen Girl Into Car

Police said the man offered the 14-year-old girl $200 to get in the car with him but she refused. A composite sketch is in the works.

A man allegedly tried to lure a teenage girl into his car Thursday by offering her $200 dollars to show him where Monrovia High School was, police said.

The 14-year-old girl middle school student was walking home from a sporting event at about 4 p.m. Thursday when the man approached her and asked her where the high school was, Monrovia Police Sgt. Nick Manfredi said.

"He told her he was in a hurry and he needed to go to the high school and asked her to get in his car to show him where the high school was located," Manfredi said.

When the girl refused, the man offered her $200 to get in the car, Manfredi said. She again refused and the man got into his car and drove away.

The suspect is described as a male Hispanic between the ages of 20 to 25 standing five-foot-nine to five-foot-ten and weighing 180 to 190 pounds. He wore silver metal-framed glasses and had black, medium length shaggy hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a black t-shirt and khaki pants with a brown camouflage pattern on the legs, according to a news release.

Police described the suspect's car as a silver, late 90's model 4-door Honda Civic with a bicycle rack attached to the the trunk.

Manfredi said police are working on a composite sketch of the suspect.

Anyone with information about the suspect is urged to call the Monrovia Police Department Watch Commander at (626) 256-8031 or (626) 256-8032.

Parents, PLEASE teach your daughters to do exactly what that 14 year old did. And add to that lesson to RUN and scream at the top of your lungs. Also- to never walk anywhere alone. Sadly, the world isn't safe anymore- not even in our wonderful city. I hope the police get this guy.

They good news is, we've put a good chunk of 3-strikes out to pasture, and a whole bunch of this animal's compadres are about to walk out of prison. Oh, on top of the ones being "re-aligned" out of the system.

this kid did the right thing, if anybody harasses or annoys a child by an adult should be reported. we have to teach our children to remain vigilant towards these predators and use their phones or write down information about the vehicle so the guy gets caught and learn from his mistakes so he doesnt do it again.
