Sheriff Gets Grant To Eradicate Marijuana

The "Domestic Cannabis Eradication/Suppression Program" grant was awarded to the sheriff's office.

Local law enforcement got a grant that aims to smoke out marijuana law violators.

The Tuesday accepted a $175,000 federal grant to support the sheriff's department's drug interdiction efforts.

The Drug Enforcement Administration "Domestic Cannabis Eradication/Suppression Program" grant was awarded to offset its costs for investigating, locating, seizing and destroying marijuana grows.

Most of the funds will be dedicated to cover overtime expenses for personnel in the sheriff's Special Investigations Bureau.

Law enforcement has been busy in the last few years. After California voters approved a bill legalizing marijuana for medical purposes, numerous storefront marijuana dispensaries opened in Temecula and the surrounding area.

Various law enforcement agencies have shut down each one.

"The sheriff's department and the DEA have been working together for more than 20 years in their efforts to eliminate operations where cannabis is grown in Riverside County," sheriff's documents state. "The department works to eradicate illicit marijuana cultivation and to arrest and bring to prosecution individuals charged with violating controlled substance laws."

Any technology devised by man is subject to misuse. It is supposed to be the job of our leadership to prevent that but there is so little true leadership among our elected officials it is scary.

If people want to do drugs they're going to do it no matter what. We need to stop wasting our money on lost causes and start using it towards education for people who will actually amount to something! Plus lets be real here, marijuana has directly caused exactly ZERO deaths! It has far less toxic effects than tobacco and alcohol and has been proven to have numerous medical applications. The primary reason it has been criminalized is because 90% of the major business would go bankrupt due to cannabis's inexpensive source of materials.

Marijuana has been directly responsible for the death of many heavy users' intelects. I have never met a heavy, habitual marijuana smoker who did not have obvious brain damage from it.

Perhaps if TVOR could spell correctly I could take his comments more seriously. There is no brain damage from marijuana usage. Marijuana, or more specifically THC, works by imitating a natural lipid protein called anandamide which is produced by the body. In fact ther have been several studies which indicate that pot may lead to neurogenesis or brain growth. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2005/10/051016083817.htm http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn8155-marijuana-might-cause-new-cell-growth-in-the-brain.html http://www.postmodernmoron.com/2011/02/06/marijuana-stimulates-brain-cell-growth-no-bullshit/ http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/your-brain-food/201007/the-munchies-marijuana-and-happiness There have also been several studies showing intelligence & cognition are unaffected by heavy marijuana use. http://news.harvard.edu/gazette/2001/10.11/marijuana.html http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2011/08/does-marijuana-make-you-stupid/ And one study showed light pot usage may actually increase IQ slightly http://www.cmaj.ca/content/166/7/887.full It may be different when it comes to children though. But kids shouldn’t be getting loaded period. Now alcohol is totally different story. It actually kills & harms brain cellsother body organs. Yet it is legal??
