South Pas Man Arrested for Possession of Dangerous Weapons

South Pasadena resident Eduardo Lopez was arrested after local police and FBI found two dangerous weapons—designed to launch projectiles—at his residence on the 1500 block of Diamond Avenue Tuesday night, according to

The investigation resulted in the closing of Fair Oaks Avenue north and southbound from the 110 Freeway to Columbia Street from 6 to 8:15 p.m. 

Around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, South Pasadena Police Department was contacted by the FBI for assistance contacting Lopez, who was said to be in possession of a dangerous weapon. The suspect's vehicle was located at the 400 block of Fair Oaks Avenue, according to reports. 

The K-9 was alerted and local police units—including South Pasadena, San Marino, Alhambra and Pasadena Police Department, as well as a Burbank Police Department air-ship—were called to establish a perimeter. 

Around 7:06 p.m., Los Angeles Sheriff's Bomb technicians arrived on scene and searched the vehicle. Yet no explosives were found and the vehicle was cleared. The investigation then continued at his residence on Diamond Avenue, where two dangerous weapons were discovered. 

"It was a custom type of device used to launch various types of projectiles," said South Pas Police Officer Fernando Sandoval. "There has been nothing of this nature or this type of weapon that we can recall [in South Pas prior to this incident]." 

The suspect was arrested for a felony, PC12020, but released on bail Wednesday morning, according to officials.
