South Pas Middle School Students Injured Playing Football

One student suffers a knee injury.

Two South Pasadena Middle School students were injured after they collided with each other while playing flag football Wednesday.

The students were knocked down after running into each other on the school football field, Principal David Kubela said. One student was injured in the knee and transported to hospital by paramedics, who rushed to the school minutes after the accident occurred at around 2 p.m., about half an hour before school let out.

When Patch arrived on the scene, one of the students appeared to be in worse shape than the other as he lay on his back on the football field while paramedics assisted him. The parents of one of the students were standing by. But the good news was that the student who lay on the field was breathing, Kubela said.

Such accidents, the principal said, "happen once in a while."

At about 4:20 p.m., Kubela sent an e-mail message to parents, which read:

"I am writing to make you aware of an incident that happened today in P.E at about 2:00. Two students playing Flag Football collided. Paramedics and the student's parents were called. One student suffered a knee injury and was transported by Paramedics. The other student was evaluated and released to his parents. I am hopeful that both will make a speedy recovery."
