South Pasadena Crime Blotter: Burglary, Theft, Homicide

The Crime Summary for August 14th through August 20th, is provided by the South Pasadena Police Department.

STOLEN VEHICLE
• 8-18-13, 9 PM to 8-19-13, midnight, 800 block of Oneonta Drive. ’01, Volvo.

• 8-18-13, 10:15 AM to 6 PM, 2000 block of Meridian. ’97, Toyota Camry. Suspect(s) smashes window to gain entry, and then tamper with ignition in an attempt to start vehicle but fail. Suspect(s) then takes loss. LOSS: I-pod and laptop computer

• 8-15-13, 8:15 PM to 8-16-13, 11 AM, 1200 block of Huntington (attempt). ’97, Toyota Camry. Suspect(s) pry window to gain entry, and then tamper with ignition in an attempt to start vehicle but fail. Suspect(s) then takes loss. LOSS: Miscellaneous papers, garage remote control, jumper cables and can of engine oil.

• 8-15-13, 5:30 PM to 8-16-13, 7 AM, 1200 block of Huntington. ’02, Mazda Protégé.

AUTO BURGLARY

• 8-20-13, 1:35 PM, 1500 block of Mission. ’13, Mercedes. Witness sees suspect drive up to victim’s vehicle and S1 (passenger) exits the vehicle. S2 (driver) drives away as S1 reaches inside victim’s vehicle through a partially opened window and open the door. Victim’s car alarm activates and S1 runs to S2, who is waiting a block away. LOSS: None. SUSPECT VEHICLE: ’07, Silver BMW 325i. SUSPECT DESCRIPTION: S1 – Male, Hispanic, 18-25 years, 509, 160, wearing black pants, black shirt with an unknown cartoon character on the front and a black baseball cap. S2 – Female, Hispanic, 18-25 years, medium length dark curly hair, wearing an unknown color tank top

.• 8-19-13, 10:50 AM to 11:05 AM, 90 block of Pasadena. 13, Toyota Yaris. Suspects(s) smashes window to gain entry. LOSS: Luggage.RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY8-15-13, 9 PM, 400 block of Grand (attempt). Suspect(s) pry rear gate open, but victim’s dog may have scared suspect(s) away. Suspect(s) then attempt to pry open side window and activates alarm. Suspect(s) leave without making entry. LOSS: None

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY

8-19-13, 10:40 PM to 8-20-13, 7:30 AM, 600 block of Mission (Senor Fish). Suspect(s) pries front door open to gain entry. LOSS: Cash.

ROBBERY

• 8-18-13, 6:25 PM, 600 block of Fair Oaks (Bristol Farms). Suspect enters store and takes loss. Employee sees suspect exiting store without paying for loss and confronts suspect. Victim retrieves loss from suspect’s hand and suspect forcefully takes loss back, and then walks away. Officers arrive and locate suspect a block away. LOSS: Liquor. SUSPECT ARRESTED: Male, White, 43 years, Transient.

• 8-17-13, 12:05 AM, Fair Oaks/Oak. Victim is walking on the sidewalk when suspects approach from behind and tell victim to lie down. Victim complies and suspects take loss, and then walk away. LOSS: Purse and bag. SUSPECT DESCRIPTION: (2) Male, Blacks, 28-33 years, 600.

HOMICIDE

THEFT

• 8-19-13, 6:23 AM, 1000 block of Glendon Way. Witness sees suspects talking on the sidewalk. Witness then sees S1 walk down victim’s driveway as S2 waits on the sidewalk. Minutes later S1 exits victim’s driveway riding loss. LOSS: Bicycle. SUSPECTS DESCRIPTION: S1 – Male, Hispanic, 18-25 years, wearing a black t-shirt and black jeans. S2 – Male, 18-25 years, wearing a beige or brown shirt.• 8-11-13, 7 PM to 8-17-13, 3 PM, 700 block of Brent. Suspect(s) takes loss from victim’s vehicle. LOSS: Catalytic converter.

• 8-17-13, 3:20 PM, 600 block of Fair Oaks (Bristol Farms). Suspect enters store pushing a shopping cart and places loss inside cart. Suspect then exits store without paying for loss. LOSS: Liquor. SUSPECT DESCRIPTION: Male, White, with glasses and beard, wearing a red t-shirt, tan shorts and flip flops.

• 8-16-13, 1:10 PM, 600 block of Fair Oaks (Bristol Farms). Suspect enters store and employee sees suspect take loss and placing it inside a bag. Suspect attempts to exit store without paying for loss and employee confronts suspect. Suspect returns loss and leaves. Officers arrive and contact suspect a block away. Suspect admits to throwing narcotics paraphernalia in the bushes prior to officer’s arrival. Police canine locate discarded paraphernalia. Suspect is also found to have an outstanding warrant. LOSS: Liquor. SUSPECT ARRESTED: Male, Hispanic, 33 years, Pasadena.

• 7-2-13, 8 AM to 8-13-13, 11 PM, 600 block of Charter Oak. Suspect(s) takes loss from victim’s vehicle. LOSS: Catalytic converter.

• 8-15-13, midnight to 9:30 AM, 1600 block of Amberwood. Suspect(s) takes loss from victim’s vehicle. LOSS: License plates

.• 8-14-13, 6 PM, 1000 block of Fair Oaks. Victim is walking on the street when suspects drive up and stop next to victim. S2 (passenger) ask victim for money because S1 (driver) is ill and needs to buy medication. Victim complies and gives cash. S1 then asks for more money, and again victim complies. Suspects tell victim they would repay victim later in the evening and to meet back here. Suspects provide their cell phone number to victim. Suspects do not show up at designated time and officers contact suspects. Suspects send money to station via a courier to be returned to the victim. LOSS: None, cash returned to victim. SUSPECT VEHICLE: White, Mercedes. SUSPECTS DESCRIPTION: S1 – Female, Hispanic, 45-50 years, heavy build, dark hair, wearing a blue shirt. S2 – Male, Hispanic, 60 years, wearing a black shirt.

LASD Homicide Bureau Asst South Pasadena PD re: Ofcr. Involved Hit Shooting 1000 Blk Arroyo Verde Rd., S. Pas.

An off-duty California State University, Los Angeles police officer was injured during a confrontation with an armed suspect early Sunday morning, in the 1000 block of Arroyo Verde Road in the City of South Pasadena. The suspect was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Detectives are continuing to assist South Pasadena Police Department personnel investigate the circumstances surrounding an officer involved shooting that occurred in the 1000 block of Arroyo Verde Road, South Pasadena. Detectives have learned that at approximately 1:01 a.m., an off-duty officer employed by the California State University, Los Angeles - Department of Public Safety, was confronted by man with a gun when an officer involved shooting occurred. The suspect then fled the location in a vehicle before colliding with a parked vehicle a short distance away.

South Pasadena Police department personnel responded to the location, where the suspect was detained. The suspect, who suffered from gunshot wounds to the upper torso, was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The officer was treated at the scene for minor injuries by responding paramedics.

The suspect’s handgun was recovered at the scene.

The identity of the male adult suspect will be determined by 
Los Angeles County Department of Coroner.
