South Pasadena Police Warn Residents of Recurring Home Robberies

The news comes on the heels of a string of follow-home robberies reported in San Gabriel, Monterey Park, Alhambra and South Pasadena.

A series of 15 robberies have occurred since mid-March involving two suspects who follow victims en route home between 8:30 p.m. and 1:30 a.m., reports.

A task force has been set up among area police departments to compare notes and analyze evidence from the crimes, which have taken place in San Gabriel, Monterey Park, Alhambra and South Pasadena. One of the robberies was allegedly committed March 24 at the 1900 block of Primrose Avenue in South Pasadena. Investigators believe the same suspects are responsible for some or all of the robberies.

"Residents are warned to be aware of their surroundings and take precautions after arriving home," said Police Chief Joseph Payne. "Prior to arriving home, victims should note if they are being followed and to continue driving to the nearest police station if they feel they are."

The suspects are described as 6 feet tall, Hispanic males in their 20s wearing dark clothing  and weighing about 180 pounds. Armed with a handgun, they demand cash and other valuables as residents exit their cars. Because one victim was injured while resisting, police are advising residents to refrain from doing so.

Stay tuned. We'll keep you updated as the story develops.
