South Pasadena Police Arrests Two Burglary Suspects

A third suspect is at large despite a search aided by the police departments of Alhambra and San Marino.

The South Pasadena Police Department arrested two burglary suspects Tuesday morning. Here is a news statement about the incident that Sgt. Brian Solinsky sent to the media:

At 3:41 AM this morning, South Pasadena police received a telephone call from an alert resident in the 400 block of Meridian Avenue. The resident reported three suspicious people wearing dark clothing, exited a parked car and quickly walked away.

Officers were in the area in less than a minute and located one person near the intersection of Meridian Avenue and Buena Vista Street. Another officer located a second person in the 900 block of Buena Vista Street. When the officer attempted to stop and question the person, he ran through the backyards of several nearby homes. Officers quickly surrounded the block and began a systematic search with assistance from the Alhambra and San Marino police departments.

As the officers were searching, another resident from Buena Vista Street reported that her car had been burglarized with an estimated loss of $1,500 in property and electronics. Within an hour officers located the second suspect hiding in a backyard, crouched between an air conditioning unit and chimney. The victim’s property was also located a short distance away, stuffed into a bag belonging to one of the suspects.

Taken into custody were 31-year-old Elvis Ayala and 23-year-old Andres Alvarez, both residents of Los Angeles. Ayala is currently on parole for robbery and Alvarez is on for probation burglary. The third suspect was never located.
