Amar Jain, 74, and Cheryl Jain, 66, were both pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, according to the Riverside County Coroner's office.

Amar Jain was the driver and was trapped in the sedan; he was pronounced dead at 3:18 p.m.

Cheryl Jain was the passenger in the car; she was pronounced dead at 3:22 p.m.

This story was modified at 5:50 p.m. Oct. 20, 2012 to add information.

Update 4:40 p.m.:

Two people in an SUV died at the scene of a crash that tied up traffic into Old Town and was expected to keep Jefferson Avenue at Rancho California Road shut down for hours.

"It's just a whole … still in progress investigation," Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. John Magnan said at the scene.

A motorist in a silver vehicle that struck the SUV suffered "major" injuries, the sergeant told Patch.

According to Magnan, the blue SUV was turning on Jefferson when the westbound silver vehicle struck it.

Two other vehicles were somehow involved in a crash and investigators were trying to determine whether the silver vehicle continued on to hit them, the sergeant said.

Motorists were asked to stay off southbound Jefferson and if traveling to Old Town, to take Ynez Road and turn on Santiago Road or just use the Old Town freeway exit.

On a side note, a pickup truck driver who apparently tried to jump a concrete divider and avoid the stalled traffic at the crash site was ticketed for an alleged illegal U-turn.

A multi-vehicle crash in Temecula Saturday left two people dead and one seriously injured, officials said.

A motorist killed in the crash -- reported on Jefferson Avenue, near Rancho California Road shortly after 3 p.m. -- was trapped in a vehicle and emergency crews were working to extricate that person's remains.

Another person died at the scene, Cal Fire's Melody Hendrickson said.

A third person was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries, according to Hendrickson.

Amazing lies are you saying I am in the wrong?
Michael October 30, 2012 at 12:50 AM
Have you ever thought that maybe people have problems on their own. Adding to my last comment. Maybe Brenda is having a hard time and then you guys criticising her is making it worse. I have Aspergers and get bullied at school. A lot of it I start but don't mean to start it. So now do you want to start drama and get everyone on this post to make fun of my Aspergers. Go ahead. Have a competition so see how many people can make fun of me because I have Austism. In case you don't understand Aspergers is a form of Austism.
Michael October 30, 2012 at 12:54 AM
Oh well I didn't see where I actually referred you guys too stupid. My bad. But anyone who just rambles on about how much you don't have all the facts and just harasses Brenda on her comments honestly must not be very smart. And you called us imaginary friend I am pretty sure I have a body to be able to type on the keyboard. So if I were you I would just stop because you aren't any better than I am.
Michael October 30, 2012 at 12:56 AM
Brenda, I don't know if you have noticed but now they are harassing me on calling them stupid. Most adults would ignore it. They call me immature. Letting a high schooler offend them. At least some people understand. Thanks Brenda

Yes, Michael, unfortunately that is the way it appears now, and you are the victim, a kid for heavensake. The best is ignore as nothing you have said is out of line. And definately no TOS violations on Patch. Not you nor I are to blame for accounts being deleted so don't listen to threats. I don't even know who Amazings husband is and I am sure you dont. Not my style nor is there any reason to know. A time ago, Amazing and I had found safe ground and apparently that has went shaky overnight which is unfortunate. You are right, its bullying. IGNORE Michael my friend and make your comments on the articles and subjects if you are interested in it. You are a very mature young man and I am happy you came along here with Gardend too. My life is great, and I might have been bullied a little bit in young years I dont really remember anything specific, but I have seen it done, and I have now suffered it here horribly for the first time in my life, here of all places. Michael keep going in the direction you are and you will continue to be a fine man, supportive and caring, who took the time to look and see what I say and DO NOT say, same as Gardend did, and other regulars. I appreciate that. Now no more comments for us here right and ignore!!?!!! See ya on the Patch Michael, let it go and thank you again!!!
