South Pas Declares State of Emergency

Interim City Manager Sergio Gonzalez declared a Local State of Emergency for the City and a wind advisory in Los Angeles County is in effect until noon Friday.

Two-thirds of South Pasadena residents are still without power Thursday from a windstorm that the National Weather Service (NWS) says is not over.

Interim City Manager Sergio Gonzalez declared a Local State of Emergency for the City and a wind advisory in Los Angeles County is in effect until noon Friday.

NWS has canceled its high wind warning, but South Pas residents can expect 35 mph winds or greater into the morning.

Per the National Weather Service: 

  • Winds: Northeast 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 40 mph in the hills. 
  • Timing: Gusty winds will continue through Friday morning then decrease rapidly Friday afternoon. Winds will continue through Friday morning then decrease rapidly Friday afternoon.
  • Impacts: Winds this strong can make driving difficult especially for high profile vehicles. Additional tree dmaamge is possible especially those that were weakened from strong winds Wednesday night. 
  • Precautionary & Prepareedness Actions: A wind advisory means that winds of 35 mph or greater are expected. 

Thursday's wind storm also resulted in a to South Pasadena water storage. And although the water pumps are not fully functional yet, the water emergency has passed with tanks refilled.

Some residents, however, are still experiencing low water pressure. 

The City's Emergency Operations Center is still active and will remain so through the night. has additional personnel on duty and a 24/7 command staff.

 schools will remain closed Friday and reopen Monday. 

Officials are unsure of when the power will be restored.
