Video: Chemical Spill ''No Longer a Threat,'' Official Says

The chemical spill that closed part of Mission Street and sent roughly 100 people out of their nearby buildings was detetrmined, by 12:30 p.m., not to be a public safety hazard, authorities said.  

South Pasadena Battalion Chief Paul Riddle said firefighetrs responded to Day-Ray, a business that creates products for aircraft, at 10:30 a.m. Thursday to investigate a chemical epoxy that spilled. Three gallons of the material boiled over, he said, adding 15 to 20 employees were inside the business. at the time. No one has complained of inury or sickness, he said. 

The spill left a lingering odor, described by one passerby as burnt wires.  

Firefighters from Pasadena and Alhmabra, as well as hazardous materials units from Glendale and Burbank and Los Angeles County HazMat responded to the scene. Police closed off Mission Street between Fremont and Fairview avenues. 

HazMat officials were readying to allow the building's owners back inside to proceed with a full clean up, Riddle said.
