What to do with green waste, large branches and perishable items.

The City of South Pasadena Department of Public Works is working on clearing and cleaning damaged trees on the public right-of-way. 

Residents are urged to report any issues with City trees to the Public Works Department at (626) 403-7240. 

Some areas of the City are still experiencing power outages due to downed lines.  If you see a downed power line or experience a power outage, please call the Southern California Edison Outage Hotline at (800) 611-1911.

The  will serve as a shelter during normal business hours Monday through Friday for those who are without power or heat. Although animals will not be permitted at the Senior Center, shelter can be arranged through the Pasadena Humane Society at (626) 792-7151.

1. What can I do with all of the green waste or large branches?

The City’s contract trash company is Athens Services which takes regular household refuse collection once per week from your back yard. Athens Services’ customer service can be reached at (888) 336-6100. Property owners can cut branches into small bundles and tie them with string and place them next to their trash bins.  Also, Athens will continue its regularly scheduled weekly pick-up of up to eight (8) bins of trash or green waste per property. 

2. What can I do if I have large amounts of green waste or large branches that cannot fit in my trash bins?

Bins must be provided by Athens Services, The City’s contract trash company.  You may also consider hiring private tree contractors.  The City is prohibited from recommending particular companies, but we do have a list of companies who regularly do work in the City.  Contact (626) 403-7243. Property owners who wish to rent a large trash bin need a street use permit from the Public Works Department at (626) 403-7240, the City is currently waiving the cost of the permit for South Pasadena Residents. The closest landfill is Scholl Canyon Landfill: 7721 North Figueroa Street; Los Angeles, CA 90041-1719; (323) 245-9865

4. Where can I dispose of perishable items from my refrigerator?

We advise that you bag items properly and dispose of the in a covered bin.  Athens will resume their regular pick-up service.
