Assemblyman Holden to Address Youth & Government Students

The legislator will speak to teens from several San Gabriel Valley-area schools, and then the students will debate bills they have created and honed over the last several months.

Students from California YMCA Youth & Government will participate in a Q&A session Thursday night with Assemblyman Chris Holden.

Representing the 41st Assembly Disttrict, which includes South Pasadena, Altadena, Pasadena, Sierra Madre, Monrovia, San Dimas, La Verne, Claremont, Upland and Alta Loma (part of Rancho Cucamonga), Holden will meet with students from around the San Gabriel Valley to talk about his path to state government, and how the legislature works.

After Holden speaks, the kids will debate bills for their parents. The students have written and created the mock legislation over the past several months.

When: 6:30 p.m.

Where: Huntington Middle School, 1700 Huntington Dr., San Marino

About: California YMCA Youth & Government has more than 3,000 high school students from all over California. The organization is in its 66th year and culminates in February when the students take over Sacramento in mock legislature and court. They have debate bills, argue court cases and participate in broadcast, print and online media.

Holden giving advice to youth about government seems a bit like sending your kids to a Bernie Madoff Investment Seminar. Just say No!
