City Announces Commission Vacancies
The Community Redevelopment, Cultural Heritage and Planning Commissions all have openings at the end of this year.
In compliance with the requirements of the Maddy Act, Government Code §54970, the City publishes an annual list of expiring appointed terms for the coming year, names of incumbents and the dates of their appointment.
The Following is a complete list for 2011:
ANIMAL COMMISSION

The Animal Commission is a five-member body that advises the City Council on all matters concerning animals. It provides residents with information about animals and monitors services that exist or may be needed; it also interprets concerns of the public to the city. Qualifications for serving on the commission consist of an interest in the well-being of animals.
Regular meetings are held on the first Monday in January, March, April, May, September and November, at 6:30 p.m. at the Amedee O. "Dick" Richards, Jr., Council Chambers, 1424 Mission Street.

COMMUNITY REDEVLOPMENT COMMISSION
In 2003, the City Council established the CRC to focus on downtown revitalization.

CULTURAL HERITAGE COMMISSION
The CHC advises on issues relating to the identification, protection, retention, and preservation of landmarks and historic districts. Candidates should have an interest in and knowledge of the City’s cultural heritage. Candidates may be professionals in the fields of architecture, history, planning, archaeology, or related disciplines.

DESIGN REVIEW BOARD

FREEWAY AND TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION
The Transportation Commission concerns itself with such topics, the Gold Line, and issues related to the proposed SR-710 North extension. Commissioners have a broad range of knowledge of transportation issues, whether obtained as part of their career training or through years of volunteerism.

LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Board members serve in an advisory capacity to the City Council and are responsible for providing input to the City Librarian on library needs and traditions, and community attitudes and values. Members also assist with promoting library interests within the community and support funding at a level adequate for a well-qualified staff, a well-balanced collection and a well-maintained building. In addition, members help develop and write policies, which govern the operation of the library.

PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION
The Parks and Recreation Commission serves in an advisory capacity to the City Council with the primary purpose of gathering information, weighing public opinion, and examining issues to provide input on the leisure, recreational, social and cultural needs of the community. Projects include park improvements, field use, and community programs.

PUBLIC SAFETY COMMISSION
The Public Safety Commission serves in a primary support capacity to the city's public safety personnel in an endeavor to improve the City's existing emergency response capability. Duties include coordination of a public information campaign urging citizens to prepare themselves in the event of an emergency.
Regular meetings are held on the third Monday in January, March, May, July, September and November at 6:30 p.m. at the Fire Department Training Room (EOC), located at 817 Mound Avenue.

SENIOR CITIZENS’ COMMISSION
The five-member commission acts in an advisory capacity to the City Council in all matters pertaining to senior citizens. YOUTH COMMISSION (2011-12 school Year)
Students on the commission represent the middle school and high school. They are involved in a variety of activities, such as planning for dances; volunteering for the annual American Cancer Society fundraiser, Relay For Life; participating in a holiday food drive; and assisting with such special events as Breakfast with Santa, Walk or Bike to School Day, holiday caroling, and the Creative Contest. The commission consists of eleven youth members, a School Board member, a South Pasadena Unified School District representative, and a community-at-large member.
Regular meetings are held every third Monday of the month at 6:00 p.m. at the Library Conference Room, 1100 Oxley Street.
