City Council Recap: Shop Local Campaign to be Considered (Video)

Here's a look into what went down at South Pasadena's City Council meeting Wednesday.

Wednesday's City Council meeting generated a full house. Many South Pasadeneans were in attendance to discuss on Grand Avenue, a potential building on El Centro and changes to Monterey Road. 

While the City did not get to the latter because of its "11 o'clock rule," the first two were discussed in length.

  • City Council unanimously voted in favor of adopting a negative declaration and update to the City's Bicycle Master Plan. In the updated master plan approved by City Council were also plans for the completion of the Arroyo Seco Trail (Appendix C). Both Grand Avenue and Monterey Road were excluded from this adoption; bike lanes on Grand Avenue were overruled in a 3-2 vote.
  • The Council voted unanimously to adopt a "regular" ordinance and pay approximately $230,000 if the courts uphold a state bill that allows Community Redevelopment Agencies to continue (A.B. 27).
  • As for the potential mixed-use building at 923 El Centro Street, City council directed the architect to work with City staff and neighboring homeowners to reach a compromise on the design of the building.   • City Council unanimously voted for the to receive, test and evaluate a CNG powered patrol vehicle provided to the City through a South Coast AQMD grant.
  • Mayor Mike Ten motioned the consideration for discussion and examination of food trucks on a future agenda. Mayor Pro Temp Michael Cacciotti seconded the motion. 
  • Mayor Ten requested staff to bring back a report (also seconded by Cacciotti) regarding a shop local campaign in coordination with the South Pasadena Chamber of Commerce. To learn more about the campaign, click on the video above. You can also read about it here.
