Council to Discuss Sidewalks on Monterey Road

The sidewalks must be made compliant with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.

South Pas City Council is scheduled to discuss several design options for sidewalk accessibility along Monterey Road at its meeting Sept. 7.

"The public is encouraged to attend the upcoming City Council meeting to share their thoughts on how to best address the sidewalk accessibility issue," the City wrote in a press release.

The Monterey Road Street Improvement Project includes roadway repairs for Monterey Road between Pasadena Avenue and Fair Oaks Avenue. As part of the design of the project, existing utility obstructions in the sidewalks must be made compliant with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.

Sufficient clearance must be provided around existing obstructions by one of several design options, including creating 2.5’ curb flare-outs, narrowing the roadway or by relocating the utility obstructions.

Depending on the design option selected, there may be impacts to street parking and/or the travel lanes.
