Did You Receive This Election Mailer?

Mayor Michael Cacciotti has enlisted the help of his TV star mom in his Assembly campaign.

By now, you probably know that South Pasadena's Mayor Michael Cacciotti is running in the 41st Assembly Race, along with four other candidates.

What you may not know is Cacciotti's mother is Valerie Harper—an actress and Broadway star, best know for her role as Rhoda in The Mary Tyler Moore Show.

Pasadena Star-News Columnist Larry Wilson speculates whether or not this will give him a boost in the race:

But here in the newly formed 41st Assembly District, one candidate is definitely touting mom with absolutely no reservations.

I think I recall South Pasadena Mayor Michael Cacciotti mentioning, rather quietly, during past City Council campaigns in his small city that his mother happens to be, ahem, a famous television actress—Valerie Harper, who created the character Rhoda Morgenstern on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and its spinoff, "Rhoda," in the 1970s.

But never has the mayor, who is rather softspoken and would sooner talk about his all-electric Leaf car than show biz, pulled out the big family gun as he did on a flier that arrived in area mailboxes Saturday.

"On Mother's Day ... I would like to introduce my son, Michael Cacciotti," goes the copy on a vibrantly violet floral card. Nice headshot of mom on the front. Mom and son, looking remarkably the same age, beam from a two-shot on the back.
