Earth Day: Tree Planting and Composting Workshops

Ever plant a tree, with visions of some day lying under its shaded expanse, only to have it fall over the following week? 

Or perhaps you've decided this is the year you'll reduce your carbon footprint and start a compost pile. But you have no idea whether egg shells are appropriate to toss atop the wilted lettuce and orange peels. 

The City of South Pasadena has just the thing: two free workshops at the public library on April 13. A tree planting and tree care class runs from 9-11 a.m. Tree People will be on hand to provide information about tree placement, guidelines, care and safety. 

Now for your backyard worm pile. A session on how to turn yard trimmings and fruit and vegetable scraps into compost will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This natural soil ammendment, organizers say, is good for your garden and helps to conserve water.
