MTA: There is Such Thing as a Free Ride!

County Metro buses and trains are offering free rides on some of the booziest holiday nights.

The county's transportation agency on Monday announced free rides on the county's buses and trains on two of the year's worst nights for drinking and driving, Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority will offer the free rides from 9 p.m-2 a.m. both nights.

Metro rail will operate all night on New Year's Eve to encourage safe travel and to get people to use public transit to the Rose Parade in Pasadena on New Year's Day, but the free fares will apply only until 2 a.m.

The transit system will operate on a typical Sunday schedule on Christmas Day and New Year's Day, which fall on Tuesdays this year.
