How Will Spike in State Revenue Affect South Pas Schools?

Education spending would increase by about $3 billion, according to a revised budget report released by Gov. Jerry Brown Monday.

The Los Angeles Times reported today that Gov. Jerry Brown wants to use the unexpected $6.6 billion in state revenue towards California education.

With more money now available in the state's budget, Brown released a revised plan Monday morning that shows education spending would increase by about $3 billion over what he proposed in January. Tax increases, however, are expected to remain the same.

At school board meeting May 10, the Board approved the instructional calendar for the 2011-12 school year, which includes a total of 178 days—four of which are furlough days for certificated staff. These furlough days were negotiated with the Teachers Association of South Pasadena as a way to help alleviate costs throughout the district.
