L.A. City Councilman Wants to Rename the Harbor Freeway

Tom LaBonge says it should be called the San Pedro Freeway.

Los Angeles City Councilman Tom LaBonge wants to change the name of the 110 Harbor Freeway to the San Pedro Freeway, according to the Daily Breeze

"Almost every freeway is named after a city," said LaBonge, according to the story. "There's the Santa Monica Freeway, San Diego Freeway, San Bernardino. Only the Harbor Freeway has no city."

LaBonge wants to change the name to the San Pedro Freeway because it would "help boost the beauty of San Pedro" and also said he does not like naming freeways after numbers.

"That's an East Coast thing," LaBonge said, according to the Daily Breeze. "All their freeways and highways have numbers. I'm a West Coast guy. I like the names."

The Harbor Freeway is part of Route 110 and begins in San Pedro and runs north to the 101 Freeway, at which point it becomes the Arroyo Seco Parkway, which runs to Pasadena.
