What The Increase In Water Prices Means For South Pas

The Metropolitan Water District approved a rate increase to repair and replace aged facilities Tuesday.

The Metropolitan Water District (MWD) board Tuesday raised the cost of water delivered to its customers by 5 percent for each of the next two years, reports Pasadena Star News.

South Pasadena's wholesale water supplier is the Upper San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District (UVSGWD), which is a member agency of MWD.

South Pasadena Public Works Director Paul Toor told Patch Wednesday:

Yes, there will be an indirect impact on South Pasadena customers. Although UVSGWD is a whole sale supplier, the City may buy water directly from MWD in case there is an emergency need.

For example, we did buy some water from MWD during wind storm. Also, we may also buy some water while rehabilitating our pump stations.

Staff is looking into how much water we purchased from MWD but it is a small number. Still working on project design, therefore can’t estimate how much water will be purchased.
