November Elections in South Pasadena

Incumbents Richard D. Schneider, M.D. and David Sifuentes have stated they will not be running for City council in November.

UPDATE, Aug. 16: Paul Sullivan has confirmed with Patch intent to run for City Council November 2011. 

UPDATE, July 25: Ernest Arnold has confimed with Patch intent to run for City council November 2011. The City has also indicated that Gary Pia and Alan Ehrlich have intent to run for City Treasurer. 

UPDATE, July 22: Chris Glaeser has confirmed with Patch that he will be running for City council November 2011.

ORIGINAL STORY: This November, residents will vote to fill the following positions: 

  • Three City council members
  • Two school board members
  • One City Treasurer 

The four-year terms of Council members Richard D. Schneider, M.D., David Sifuentes and Mayor Mike Ten expire in November. While Ten has confirmed that he will be running, Sifuentes and Schneider have stated they will not, according to City Clerk Sally Kilby.

"They have both told me directly that they are not running. ... But of course, one never knows," Kilby told Patch in an e-mail Monday.

Others who have confirmed with Patch intent to run for City council in November include: Bob Joe, and Arturo Salinas. 

The position of  prior to its November 2013 expiration by long-term City Treasurer Victor Robinette. Thus far, no one has filed to run for the position. 

As for, the terms of Joseph Loo and Richard Sonner, M.D., expire in November. The term for each position is four years to begin in December. Both incumbents have expressed intent to run, according to Kilby. 

All candidates must be U.S. citizens, 18 years age and a resident and registered voter of the City.

The candidate filing period for City council extends from July 18 until August 12. If an incumbent does not file by the August 12 deadline, non-incumbents have until August 17 to file. The City filing fee is $25, and if candidates choose to print a statement in the voter booklet, the cost is $400 for an English-language statement.

Qualified residents interested in filing for City council or City Treasurer are asked to contact the City Clerk’s Office at (626) 403-7232. Residents interested in filing for school board positions can call the School District Office at (626) 441-5810, ext. 1110.
