Photo Gallery: Merchants Vent Frustration at Forum

Business owners attended an evening forum at Shakers Restaurant to voice their concerns about the Fair Oaks street improvement project.

About 50 area business owners attended a evening meeting hosted by the Chamber of Commerce at Shakers Restaurant.

The forum gave merchants impacted by the Fair Oaks construction to vent their frustration and concerns. Chamber president Scott Feldmann moderated the meeting, with city officials answering questions.

Among the topics discussed were parking citations issued with store owners requesting a forgiveness period due to the financial hardship. Many said that clients have refused to come back until work is completed, and in some cases many said they lost long-time customers altogether.

Police have tried to remedy the traffic situation by stationing officers at key locations on Fair Oaks. Another item brought up was the signage directing motorists to various businesses, making them aware that they are open. The purpose of the meeting was to provide a dialogue between the business community, city and construction representatives to help in resolving some of the concerns.
