Photos: City Clerk, Fire Chief Get Retirement Gifts

City Council gives Sally Kilby a beautiful pleinair painting; Jerry Wallace given lifeguard station replica.

Two city employees who have served South Pasadena for a total of 20 years were given parting gifts on the eve of their retirement at Wednesday night's City Council meeting.

City Manager Sergio Gonzalez gave City Clerk Sally Kilby a striking pleinair painting depicting the area on Mission Street around Busters Cafe. Meanwhile, Police Chief Art Miller handed over to Fire Chief Jerry Wallace a replica of a lifeguard station.

Gonzalez explained the significance of the departing fire chief's gift: Wallace lives in Huntington Beach, so it's appropriate that he have a lifelong memory of the lifeguard station behind his house. (Similarly, Kilby, who lives in South Pasadena, will have a local landmark to cherish.)

Both Kilby and Wallace are scheduled to retire at the end of December. Kilby has served South Pasadena for 13 years and Wallace for seven.
