Street Repairs Begin on Mission Ahead of Planned Repaving

Workers run into at least one surprise—a leaking sewage pipe.

Repairs on two water mains and a sewage pipe got underway Monday on a block of Mission Street immediately east of Park Avenue and adjacent to Garfield Park.

The block of Mission stretches from Park till Marengo—and the repairs come ahead of the planned repaving of Mission east of Fair Oaks.

The section of Mission east of Park was blocked off to traffic and shall remain so until construction is complete. A crew supervisor from J.T. Engineering who was on the scene told Patch he couldn’t say how long the repairs would take, and that the schedule would depend on what they find underneath the road.

Construction workers weren’t expecting a leak in the sewage pipe, for example, when they dug up the street Monday, Sharpe said.

They crew is hoping there aren’t any further surprises as they work on two water mains. “We have to make sure power lines [underground] are not disturbed,” Sharpe said.
