Two 710 Meetings Scheduled This Week

More technical details are expected to be shared with concerned citizens.

Though Metro decided late last month to no longer consider 710 Freeway extension routes that would run through the neighborhoods of Highland Park, Mount Washington and Garvanza, many locals remain engaged in the issue.

On Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, those locals will have the opportunity to discuss with experts and officials plans for the one extension route that Metro has yet to scratch from its list: an underground tunnel that would run beneath the South Pasadena and El Sereno.

Tuesday, (tonight) 7 p.m.
Pasadena Convention Center Ballroom, 300 E. Green St.

This forum, hosted by Pasadena City Councilmember Steve Madison, will feature experts from several fields who will answer specific questions about the proposed freeway tunnel.

Those slated to attend are Dr. Rob McConnell University of Southern California, who will speak about health concerns related to freeways; Dr. Ken Hudnut, who will discuss the technical challenges of building the proposed F7 tunnel; Susan Mossman, who will speak briefly on concerns about the impact on historic properties; Dr. John Seinfeld, who will address pollution issues resulting from freeways and  Ara Najarian, who currently serves on the Glendale Housing Authority.

A representative from Metro has also been invited to attend the meeting.

Wednesday, 6:30-8 p.m.
El Sereno Senior Center, 4818 Klamath Pl.

According to Metro, "the meeting will include a description of the environmental review process and an opportunity to hear about the proposed [F7 Tunnel] alternative from Metro technical staff. All homeowners, residents, and prospective residents are urged to attend the meeting and voice their opinions on this important issue."

If PARENTS of children in SPUSD donated money multiple times a years {as I did/do} then maybe itRead More would ease some hardships in the classroom but they DON'T. There's a small circle of parents that always give because they can. That's good thing but it shouldn't always be on their backs. EVERY parent should give money to SPUSD. Every dollar counts!

Thank you but rather than ask South Pas residents to dig into their own pockets yet again, why notRead More help teachers by using funds already available? We have historically high reserves and stable state funding for several years. The district refuses to even negotiate salary increases. As of the past week, the district also now refuses to negotiate reduced class size changes. The recent parcel tax was passed largely to ensure that class sizes would stay low. How is it they can take money from citizens promising this and then not follow through?

This is sad and angering. Supers seem to cursed with a strain of lowsy. This is when the people enRead More masse need to stand up for the teachers and start their own pot of relief until the over due raise comes on line.

If by "learning loss" is meant student forgets what he has learned, then I would guessRead More that there was no learning at all, but a memorization of facts given. If by learning loss is meant there was a gap where no curricula was given, then that is just the point of Summer Break. Learning other non class room subjects such as what a hike in the forest has to offer..a trip to the beach...reading a good book. Just sitting under a tree and enjoying. My first impression of LearnBop was it was learning how to dance the Bop to Little Richard or Bill Hailey. Now, that is something even I could get into.

I cant tell you where I live....you would ban my posts ! But, my childhood roots are in Glendale,Read More but I have many pleasant memories of the Pasadena Winter Garden where I used to skate when I has about twelve (1950). I was playing with puberty and oh, the girls in their shortie dresses and legs....There was such a romantic feel to the place. I think I recall a circular wood burner in which there was a fire going on cold days and nights. I still have a punch card showing I was a member of the Penguin Club. There is an area in Glendale that has a peculiar feel to it and it is between Virginia and Mountain....roughly between Ruberta and Central. This isnt Pasadena, of course. That area was my stomping grounds in the 40's. Right there, I thought...it was right there where we talked and laughed....under the light of a street lamp..she was so very cute and precocious. All gone away so long ago..I "heard" her laugh in a capricious breeze that sprang, up...also carrying the scents of Jasmine...So many stories like this in Pasadena too. The people who came and went, but left in their wake a presence like a fire fly's glowing arc.
