Weather Service Issues Severe Thunderstorm Warning

A "dangerous" thunderstorm is headed toward northeastern Los Angeles County and could bring heavy winds, hail and lightning, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning late Monday afternoon for northeastern Los Angeles County, interrupting local television to alert residents of a "dangerous" storm capable of bringing heavy winds, "quarter size hail" and lightning.

The warning, issued at 4:11 p.m., remains in effect until 5:15 p.m.

"National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing quarter size hail," the warning reads. "And damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. This storm was located 11 miles southeast of Lake Los Angeles."

The warning calls it a "dangerous storm."

"If you are in its path, prepare immediately for damaging winds, destructive hail, and deadly cloud to ground lightning. People outside should move to a shelter. Preferably inside a strong building but away from windows."

I would have been happy for some rain, that is, if it could finally cool down!

Hate that the storm missed us- we need rain :( it's so dry and humid, the air quality is unbearable. Looks like another 2 weeks of this. :(

The San Gabriel Valley isn't anywhere near "northeastern Los Angeles County." So for those of you in the South Pasadena area waiting for a storm that was 30-40 miles away, you may want to check your geography first.
