What to do With Your Windstorm Debris

While the City will remove City-owned trees, residents can contract a licensed tree trimming company to remove those that have fallen on private property.

With power restored throughout town, many residents are wondering when they can expect debris to be cleared from the streets.

"[The debris] is piled high in many neighborhoods on the streets and along the gutters, and I was wondering if there is some further effort the City can take to take away a lot of these piles," former Mayor Odom Stamps asked City Council Wednesday night.

"There are three phases for our clean-up efforts," explained City Manager Sergio Gonzalez.

"The first effort was to make sure our citizens were safe with power lines. And the second phase was to clear the roadways, so our residents could get to and from where they needed to go. The third phase is the phase that we are in now and that is cleaning the right-of-ways, so we will be coming by as we can," he continued.

Residents are encouraged to call the City of South Pasadena at (626) 403-7240 to remove City-owned trees. The City will remove any trees that have fallen in public right-of-way.

If a tree has fallen on private property, residents can contract a licensed tree trimming company to remove and cut it. The City will waive permit fees. (Remember: The tree must be damaged.) However, you will still need to notify the City Public Works Department so you are not fined or prosecuted at a later date.

Public Works Department can be reached at (626) 403-7240. If it is after hours, contact the non-emergency number at (626) 403-7297.

City Council also approved Wednesday a deal with Athens for discounted green waste bins. The $70 encroachment fee has been waived until Jan. 31 with rates discounted near 50 percent.

South Pasadena Athens customers can call (888) 336-6100 for more information.
