College Bound: Santa Clara University

The tales of a local high schooler looking for the right college. First up: Santa Clara.

While on a trip to UC Berkeley to see the graduation, my mother and I decided to visit Santa Clara University. It seemed like the task would be relatively simple, but we were wrong. This would be my first official college tour, and I wanted to make a good impression and have everything go smoothly. After eating a delicious breakfast of whole-wheat pancakes and home fries, we embarked on our journey.

I entered the address into our navigation system, which we named Lola, and my mother and I began to drive. We started this adventure thinking that Santa Clara would be only about 45 minutes away. With this in mind, we were on schedule to attend the tour that began at 10:30 a.m.. Naturally, when I looked at the clock and saw that it was 10:25 a.m. and there was a significant distance between our current position and the finish line, I started to panic! All of a sudden I saw a huge, ominous bridge in the distance. It looked like it had an incline of about 45 degrees and was at least 9 miles long. And did I mention it was raining? You can only imagine how much stress I had.

When we finally got off of that dreadful bridge, we pulled into Denny’s and got some decent directions. It took us a while, but as soon as we saw the sign that said “Santa Clara University” I literally screamed out of delight! Would you believe it if I told you that after we saw that sign the clouds cleared and the rain stopped?

When we finally got to Santa Clara I could not believe how beautiful the campus was! I was worried that after such a trying trip, the campus would be hideous and escalate my anger—but I was wrong! It was a concentrated campus, and there weren’t any major streets driving through. A lot of remodeling and rebuilding has just been completed so many of the dorms and department buildings have been redone. In addition to the new buildings, the university still maintains it’s old-fashioned beauty with the Santa Clara Mission.

Overall, Santa Clara is a great school and I can definitely see myself there. Here are three random facts that I learned while on my visit that really excited/interested me:
