Principal Appointed to Arroyo Vista Elementary

Cheryl Busick comes to South Pasadena from the Temple City Unified School District.

The South Pasadena Unified School District approved the appointment of Cheryl Busick as principal of l July 27, reports South Pasadena Unified School District's (SPUSD) website. 

“It is clear that Arroyo Vista enjoys a rich history of academic and cultural excellence that is the result of a collegial partnership between the school staff and parents," Busick stated in a press release.

"Parents, teachers, support staff, and administration all have an important role to encourage our children to become active learners. I invite all stakeholders to be active participants in Arroyo Vista.”

Busick comes to South Pasadena from Temple City Unified School District and succeeds Brent Noyes, who retired as Arroyo Vista’s principal in June. In the 2010-11 school year, Busick served as Coordinator of Curriculum in Temple City working with all schools in the district.

Prior to that, Busick was principal at Longden Elementary School for 10 years, a school with more than 1,000 students. Busick was selected as Arroyo Vista’s principal from more than 70 candidates, according to SPUSD's website.

"Eight candidates were selected to interview for the position, and the highest rated candidates were given a second interview with the superintendent and his cabinet," stated the press release. "The outstanding pool of candidates included several with experience as principals or other administrative positions."

During Busick's tenure at Longden School, she focused her efforts towards teachers improving academic achievement for all students with special emphasis on closing the achievement gap for Latino students and other subgroups.

Colleagues have described Busick as a strong leader who places the needs of students above all others. She is known as a collaborative leader, and she has developed strong partnerships with parents and community members. Her extensive experience and excellent qualifications make her an outstanding match for Arroyo Vista Elementary, reports SPUSD. 

Busick officially starts at Arroyo Vista August 8.
