Day in the Life: South Pas Middle Schoolers (Photos)

Thursday marked the first day of class for SPUSD. Patch follows middle schoolers through their first day.

Many South Pas sixth graders could hardly sleep Wednesday night. They were too excited about their first day of class at the newly improved , according to Principal Dave Kubela.

"It's great to see the students back in school. There was lots of excitement and enthusiasm—especially the sixth graders," said Kubela as he directed parents picking up thier children into the new parking lot Thursday afternoon.

The parking lot was part of an approximate $16.5 million addition to the school, including a media center and larger gymnasium.

The majority of the project, which broke ground in 2009, was paid for by a portion of $29 million in Measure M bond funds, which city voters authorized to pay for school construction projects in 2002, Patch reported in November

Although students weren't able to see the highly anticipated gym quite yet on Thursday, it should be ready for use next week.
