Johnson writes in a PTA newsletter Friday:

Dear Parents,

Beginning in September, the MHS School Site Council (SSC) will need to replace three parent positions, one being a one-year term and two being two-year terms. Parent members are nominated by parents, and you may nominate yourself. In the event of more candidates nominated than openings, a voting process is put into effect. For your reference, listed at the bottom is an overview of the SSC responsibilities.

Also, please find below a nomination form for the beginning of the replacement process. You may nominate up to three parents for the openings. Return the form in a sealed envelope to Mr. Johnson. Nominations must be submitted by Monday, May 14, in order to post the list of candidates. If you are considering being a SSC member and would like to know more about it, please contact me. The SSC appreciates your nominations!

Sincerely,

Joe Johnson Principal

OVERVIEW OF SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL RESPONSIBILITIES

The School Site Council (SSC) is a ten-member group (equally weighted among five school members and five parent members) which meets monthly to monitor the School Improvement Program (SIP). The SIP is State-funded and intended to assist schools improve their instructional programs effectiveness. The SSC is held responsible for overseeing the annual budget that supports Monterey Hills' academic plan. This plan basically focuses upon several academic content areas,  as well as improving student achievement through parent and school collaboration. During the three-year implementation period, the school plan is assessed and revised annually with staff and parent input.

At the end of three years, the school faculty, principal, support staff, and parents conduct a self-study to see what is currently happening in our instructional program to assess the areas of strength and those areas needing improvement. New to the School Improvement Program this year, is the Single Plan for Student Achievement that utilizes data to develop and, ultimately, meet goals in order to propel our school toward continuous student improvement.

School Site Council meetings are usually scheduled the fourth Tuesday each month. Meetings are held in the Office Conference Room at 3:00 pm.
