South Pas Falls to La Canada in League Golf Match

A win over the Tigers Tuesday gives La Canada the top spot in the Rio Hondo League.

Although the La Canada High boys’ golf still had one more league match remaining, the Spartans took the Rio Hondo League team championship after beating South Pasadena 176-217 Tuesday at the Almansor Golf Course in Alhambra.

The victory gave the Spartans a 15-1 overall record and a 7-0 league record, according to a story in the La Canada Valley Sun.

The Spartans’ performance earned the praise of South Pasadena coach Richard Goto, who told the Valley Sun:

“I’m not sure I’ve ever seen anything as awesome as La Cañada golf this season. First of all, I’m not even sure how they lost this year because when you can shoot like that as a team, that’s special. They have to be one of the best teams in the state, if not the country.”

The Tigers’ Henry Sue finished with a 36, Cole Teague earned a 38, and Ken Rodriguez finished with a 41.

South Pasadena will compete in next Wednesday and Thursday’s league preliminaries and finals at La Verne’s Marshall Canyon Golf Course.
