If you have kids in , live in the community or just plain like the community, the Boosters Club wants you at their event.
The club is hosting its inaugural Booster Bash from 6-11 p.m. on Sept. 15, in the hopes of not only raising money, but also building its membership, said Linda Louie, Boosters club vice president. Further, the club would like to diversify its sources of revenue beyond Saturday Night Bingo, she said, but still continue its 50-year-old tradition of supporting extracurricular activities at the high school.
“When people hear Booster Club, they understandably think sports,” Louie said. “But the reality is the Booster Club supports a wide variety of other vitally important activities, including science, instrumental music, theater, journalism, pep, virtual business – you name it.”
Because Tiger Bingo has been so successful for so long, Louie added, there’s a mistaken tendency to think it can take care of everything. That’s not the case, she said.
“Though Bingo remains a constant source of support, the financial challenges facing the school district and the needs at the high school have dramatically increased.”
According to Louie, that’s why the Booster Club is working to increase its membership – currently, only one-quarter of student families belong.
“Most SPHS students benefit from Booster Club funds. We want to make sure that everyone realizes that support of the Booster Club means critical support for the extracurriculars that are such an important part of the high school experience – the things make us want our children to attend school in South Pasadena,” Louie says.
Booster Bash 2012 will be held at the home of Therese and Mario Molina, 1311 Chelten Way. Tickets are $40 per person and may be purchased online at sphsboosterbash.eventbrite.com, or by mailing a check to SPHS Booster Club, 1401 Fremont Ave., South Pasadena CA 91030.
